About Me
Hortencia J. Hernandez obtained her Ph.D. in Data Science at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). She holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a Music Minor from Baylor University and a Masters of Science in Statistics from UTEP.
Her research interests focus on graph theory and social network modeling with a focus on synthetic data generation. She specializes in analyzing longitudinal data and social network graphs.
Her technical skill set includes proficiency in multiple programming languages, including R, Python, SQL, MATLAB, C++/C#, and Go. She has experience developing data visualization projects using ggplot2, RShiny, and Power BI. To explore more of her work, please check out her CV and the rest of this site.
In addition to research, Hortencia has performed with UTEP’s musical ensembles, including Mariachi Los Mineros and the UTEP Flute Choir during her graduate studies. During her undergraduate years, she performed with Baylor’s Golden Wave Marching Band (and Courtside Band) on piccolo. She also performed with the concert band on flute and the campus orchestra on violin. Near the end of her graduate studies, she performed for the short film The Piece For Her.
